Built from your CAD and engineering data

Cinematic 3D for mining, energy and heavy industry.

Equipment that works underground. Reactions inside sealed vessels. Plants that won't exist for another four years. Westgate Studios builds them in 3D from your engineering data, accurate enough for your engineers and cinematic enough for your sales team.

The problem

The most important part of your product is the part no camera will ever reach.

So the marketing ends up working around a hole in the middle. Site footage shows a fence. Product shots show a closed box. Renders straight out of CAD look like CAD. The part buyers, investors and regulators most need to see stays invisible.

Underground loader carrying ore through a dusty drive

Underground

Loaders, drills and haul roads working hundreds of metres down, in dust and dark.

Sealed

Electrolysers, reactors and battery packs, where the real work happens behind steel.

Not built yet

Plants still in funding or consent, with nothing on the ground to film.

Case study · Holmaneset, Norway

Nothing to photograph.

Holmaneset is a proposed 300MW green hydrogen and ammonia plant on the Norwegian coast. While it went through EU funding and local planning consent, the site was still forest and fjord. The plant was rebuilt from project CAD and tracked into real drone footage of the site, so every audience saw exactly what would stand there.

Selected work

Built from engineering data. Cut for real audiences.

Mining, hydrogen, batteries and heavy machinery. Every piece starts from real geometry and ends as something a sales team, a board or a tender panel can actually use.

Underground loading

Mining · Capability film

A loader working a dusty drive, filmed where no crew could ever light a shot.

PEM electrolyser

Hydrogen

Studio turntable, factory dolly and a full exploded cutaway down to the MEA.

Haul truck

Mining

Ultra-class haul truck, built to scale and dropped into a working pit.

Battery architecture

Fortescue Zero

A cell-to-pack battery explained layer by layer, from cooling ribbons to chassis.

Excavator, clay to final

Heavy machinery

The same shot from untextured model to finished frame, in under four seconds.

Drill rig

Mining · Social cut

A vertical cut for LinkedIn: clay model wipes to the lit, finished rig.

Scan data to film

Mining · Point cloud

Real point cloud data from an underground mine, resolving into a finished, lit render. Your existing scans can become usable film.

Electrolyser in situ

Hydrogen · Product film

The same build moved into a factory hall, then taken apart in place.

Product

Line drawing to finished, exploded product shot.

Stills

One build. Every channel.

Every film comes with a set of stills pulled from the same build, ready for pitch decks, tenders, trade show stands and press. Unlike site footage, none of it dates.

How it works

From CAD handoff to final film in 4 to 6 weeks.

01

CAD and data in

Send whatever exists: STEP files, drawings, scan data, site photos and drone footage. NDA signed before anything moves.

02

Build and engineering review

A true-scale model, lit to read as photographic. Your engineers check it before a single final frame renders.

03

Film and stills out

Typically a 40 to 90 second film plus a set of stills, mastered for every channel you'll use them in.

Where it's used

Unlike site footage it doesn't date, so one build keeps working across every channel for years.

About

Hi, I'm Will.

I make 3D animation of equipment, processes and places that can't be filmed. I spent a year in-house at Fortescue visualising green hydrogen facilities and haul trucks for board, government and investor audiences. I also animate for Zack D Films.

Westgate Studios works with mining, hydrogen, fusion, nuclear and heavy machinery companies. I split my time between Fukuoka, Japan and the UK, and work with teams anywhere.

FAQ

Questions teams usually ask

What do you need from us to start?

Whatever engineering data exists: CAD or STEP files, general arrangement drawings, scan or point cloud data, site photos and drone footage. Where CAD doesn't exist, the build works from drawings and reference.

How long does a project take?

Most films take 4 to 6 weeks from CAD handoff to final delivery. If you're working to a tender or trade show date, mention it on the first call.

How long are the films?

Typically 40 to 90 seconds, plus a set of stills from the same build. Vertical cuts for social and looping versions for trade show screens can come from the same project.

How accurate is it?

Built at true scale from your data and reviewed by your engineers before final render. Accurate enough that engineers don't wince, cinematic enough that the sales team wants to use it.

Can you work under NDA?

Yes. NDAs are standard, and you get a single point of contact from CAD handoff to final delivery.

Can you use our existing scan or point cloud data?

Yes. LiDAR and point cloud scans you already have can be turned into finished film, like the underground piece above.

What does it cost?

Every project is scoped to the brief. Send over what you're working on and I'll come back with a quote.

Where are you based?

Between Fukuoka, Japan and the UK. Projects run remotely, so location isn't a constraint.

If your product does its best work where a camera can't go, let's talk.

A short call is enough to see whether 3D is the right way to show what you're building.
